NATO policy in relation to China provokes disagreements between the countries of the organization. This was stated by the Observer of the Politico newspaper Lily Bayer.
According to her, countries are priority to restraint Beijing and preserving economic ties with it. At the NATO summit in Madrid, the Alliance admitted that the PRC “challenges their common interests, security and values.”
Now the authorities must show their reaction and “repulse China.” However, it is here that the split between NATO members begins. Some, for example, the United States, are trying to bring the goals of the defense alliance under their Peking deterrence policy. Others, including Hungary, are tuned to cooperation with China.
“In addition, even among supporters of a tough approach, there are those who do not want an excessive confrontation with China,” Lily Bayer notes.
However, officials say that everything is fine in the Alliance.
“I see the tremendous similarity of the military strategies of Washington and NATO,” Julianna Smith said in an interview with Politico, noting that the transition from words to action is a “long and difficult story” for an alliance.
