NATO promised to ensure safety of Sweden and Finland

NATO will find a way to ensure the safety of Sweden and Finland for the transition period of joining the alliance in the event that these countries submit applications for joining the organization, the Secretary General of Jens Stoltenberg said in a joint statement with the head of the European Parliament Roberta Mettsola.

“Finland and Sweden should independently make decisions on whether to request NATO membership or not. But if they decide to request, they will be adopted by us with great joy. Sweden and Finland are our closest partners … We work with them … We work with them For many years, their armed forces comply with NATO standards … I expect the process of accession to be fast … For NATO, the safety of Finland and Sweden matters … I am sure that we will find solutions (ensuring security) for this transition period between filing requests and official ratification ” – RIA Novosti quotes him.
