NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to reach an agreement that would pave the way to normalize relations and the strong world.
The head of the military-political bloc said at a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on Tuesday, March 19, the Alliance press service reports.
“This is important for Euro -Atlantic security, since we are faced with a more dangerous world,” he stressed.
Stoltenberg also noted that NATO supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, as well as the peaceful aspirations of Yerevan.
He attracted attention to the fact that Armenia for almost 20 years was a key partner of the NATO CFOR peacekeeping mission, helping to ensure a safe and reliable environment for all communities in Kosovo.
The General Secretary noted that the conflict of the Russian Federation and Ukraine is a “sobering reminder that the world should not be taken for granted.”
“If Putin succeeds in Ukraine, there is a real risk that his aggression will not stop there, and other authoritarian players will gain courage,” said Jens Stoltenberg.
The head of the Blok called on all NATO partners to “do everything possible to guarantee that Putin would not win his war”.
“The situation on the battlefield remains difficult, but this is an occasion to activate actions, and not reduce our support,” he said.
During his visit, the Secretary General discussed the course of the implementation of reforms in Armenia. Armenia demonstrated a real commitment to the fight against corruption, strengthening democratic institutions and maintaining the rule of law, he concluded.
Stoltenberg also wrote on his page on the social network X that he held in Yerevan a meeting with the President of Armenia Vaagn Khachatryan and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
“Peace and stability in the South Caucasus are important for security in a broader sense. I urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to take the opportunity to establish a durable world,” the head of NATO emphasized.
