Discussions about whether Europe should have its own nuclear deterrence means will undermine NATO and will not bring any benefit. This point of view was expressed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on one of the panels held as part of the 60th Munich Security Conference.
“NATO has played a role in nuclear deterrence for decades. This is what the United States is doing its European allies. NATO nuclear deterrence will not bring any benefit. It will undermine NATO when we really need reliable deterrent,” said Secretary General.
Touching the topic of the armed conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that disagreements in the United States affect the front line in Ukraine.
“I am not saying that everything is fine. I agree that European allies need to do more (in the issue of increasing defense costs), but at least we are on the right track,” the Secretary General said.
According to him, European countries and Canada provide great support than the United States when it comes to Ukraine.
The United States must urgently agree on the help of Ukraine in the Congress, as this is vital. This directly affects the front line in Ukraine, ”Stoltenberg emphasized.
