In the ancient city of Sidra in the Turkish province of Antalya, a new excursion route will appear in the near future.
In the city, which is located near the village of Secta in the Alanya region, archaeological excavations have been underway for five years, thanks to which its current appearance was formed.
At the moment, on the territory of the ancient city, the history of which dates back to the 9th BC, an intensive work is underway related to the preparation of an excursion route along ancient ruins.
The work is under the support of the Main Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the Turkish Historical Society and the Municipality of the Alanya district.
On the territory of the city there is a baptism cave, decorated with Christian images, a bathhouse with the remains of a mosaic on the floor, a street with a colonnade, a parliament building, ancient statues of the Greek goddess of Victory Nicky, stairs connecting streets and other ancient objects.
In an interview with Anadolu, a teacher at the Department of Archeology of the University of Karamanoglu Mehmetbey, the head of excavations of the ancient city of Sidra, Doctor of Sciences Ertug Ergührer said that during the excavations that were held for five years, archaeologists discovered very important findings.
According to him, the first archaeological work in Saedra was carried out in 1994-1999 on the street with a colonnade.
“In the city there are large streets located parallel to each other, as well as the streets and stairs interconnected. We will try to complete the work related to the stairs this year. When this work is completed, a full -fledged route will appear in the city” – said the head of the excavation.
Erguirer noted that work with stairs has their own difficulties and is currently excavated at least 150 steps.
“The history of the city, judging by the finds we have studied, has 3,000 years. However, in further research, finds related to an earlier period can be found,” said Ergurier.
According to him, the main goal of this year is to open an ancient city for visitors.
“Upon completion of the work related to the installation of indicators and clearing the streets, a new excursion route will appear in the city,” the head of excavations said.
