In Britain, the sources of financing the leave of Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the island of Mussy in the Caribbean from the end of December 2019 at the beginning of January 2020. Information on the beginning of the relevant investigation was confirmed by the Commissioner on the standards of the UK Parliament Catherine Stone, reports TASS.
Messages on the launch of such a procedure in relation to the head of the British government appeared in the press last year, but officially they were confirmed only on Monday on the legal authority website.
Scandal around Johnson’s New Year’s trip with his bride Carrie Simonds worth £ 15 thousand ($ 20 thousand), held soon after his victory in the parliamentary elections on December 12, 2019, broke out due to ambiguity on vacation payment. The Prime Minister himself claimed that the island was paid for David Ross, the donor of the ruling conservative party, the former deputy board of the British company Carphone Warehouse – the largest mobile phone retailers in Europe.
In turn, Ross later denied these statements of the head of the British government, stating that he did not pay for the rest of Johnson and his girlfriend, but only helped with the organization of their residence.
This investigation was initiated after the appeal of deputies from the opposition Labor Party, which indicated that the Codex of Deputy Ethics demands from members of the Parliament to inform the name of a person or an organization that fulfilled or fulfilled a donation. This provision applies to the Prime Minister, which, according to the rules operating in the UK, must be a member of parliament.
If the Stone comes to the conclusion that Johnson violated the norms of the Code, then she is entitled to demand written apologies from him. At the same time, if she deems the violation of the Prime Minister is very serious, it can convey this case for consideration directly to the Parliamentary Committee on Standards, which can make a more severe punishment, for example, to deprive Johnson part of the salary. As British media writes, a similar outcome can be a significant blow to the reputation of the head of government.
The scandal around the holiday has already become a second investigation launched against Johnson lately. On April 28, it became known that the United Kingdom Election Commission began checking the circumstances related to the payment of repair in the Premier Residence.
