Nigeria has been faced with violence from armed gangs, as well as the Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) operating in various parts of the country.
Despite the fact that the death execution is provided for the abduction of people in Nigeria, cases of abduction for the purpose of redemption remain a common occurrence. Bands are most often attacking villages, schools and passengers in the northern regions of the country, demanding a ransom for the captured hostages.
