International non -governmental organization Sea Watch, based in Germany, called on European authorities to intervene and save 32 people who were in the distress off the coast of Tunisia.

The SEA Watch statement in X states that 32 people who are stuck on the Miskar gas platform in Gabes Bay did not receive proper help.

These persons run the risk of being returned to Tunisia, where they may encounter deprivations and difficult living conditions, attracted attention to NGOs.

Tunisian authorities have not yet commented on the publication.

March 1, Sea Watch reported that 32 people were noticed on the gas platform in the Gabes Bay, presumably illegal migrants.

Every year, thousands of African illegal migrants flows into Tunisia, bordering Libya and Algeria, hoping to cross the Mediterranean Sea and get to Europe in search of a better life.

The Tunisian authorities regularly report attempts to relieve illegal transfer of migrants to the European coast.

In September 2023, the European Commission announced the allocation of Tunisia 127 million euros as part of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed with the European Union. Part of these products is designed to reduce the flow of illegal migrants.
