The number of elderly people in Turkey exceeds the population of 96 countries, including Switzerland, Serbia, Ireland, New Zealand, Armenia and Iceland. The share of older people in Turkey is 9.1 million people.
According to Anadolu agency with reference to the Turkish Statistical Institute (Tüi̇k), the number of elderly people in Turkey (65 years and older) exceeds the population of many countries.
The population of the Earth as of 2024 amounted to 8 billion 161 million 973 thousand people. At the same time, older people account for 10.2%.
The population of Turkey in the period under consideration amounted to 85 million 664 thousand 944 people. And the share of the elderly in the country accounts for 10.6 % or 9 million 112 thousand 298 people.

Meanwhile, China in 2024 took first place in terms of the elderly population with an indicator of 208 million 147 thousand 281 people. This is followed by India – 103 million 691 thousand 375 and the USA – 61 million 930 thousand 598.
The country with the highest share of elderly people in the total population became Monaco – 36.2 %. The total population of Monaco is 38,631, 13,972 people from this number are older people. Following Monaco, Japan is 29.8%, Italy – 24.6%, Portugal – 24.5%and Greece – 23.9%.
The number of the lowest share of elderly people in the total population included Qatar (1.7%), the United Arab Emirates (1.8%), Zambia (1.9%), Chad and Sudan (2.1%), the Central African Republic (2.2%).
