Number Of Prisoners Will Be Released Ahead Of Schedule In USA Due To “lack Of Personnel” In Prisons

Against the backdrop of “lack of personnel” in connection with the dismissal of more than two thousand employees of correctional institutions in the American state of New York, some prisoners convicted of minor crimes will be released ahead of schedule.

Director of the Department of correctional institutions and administrative supervision, Daniel Martheushello, said that he instructed the management of correctional institutions to begin work on early release of prisoners convicted of minor crimes and sentenced to deprivation of liberty for a period of 15 to 110 days.

Marthechello drew attention to the “lack of staff” in the state prisons, noting that some prisoners will be released ahead of schedule.

The director of the department excluded early release among prisoners serving a sentence for committing crimes of a sexual and violent nature, as well as for murder, terrorism and arson.

Earlier, on February 17, employees of prisons throughout the state of New York announced a strike in protest against difficult working conditions, including the lack of staff and mandatory overtime work.

New York Governor Katie Hawkul, in order to ensure security, sent the National Guard to prisons due to the “banner authorized by the trade union”, which violated the work of correctional institutions.

On March 10, Martheushello said that the 22-day strike ended with the achievement of an agreement with the trade union. However, more than two thousand employees of the staff of the state were dismissed due to the refusal to get to work on the agreed time after the strike.
