The number of those killed as a result of an ongoing armed conflict in Sudan reached 551 people. This was announced by a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Harris at a weekly briefing in the UN Geneva Office.
According to her, 4,926 people were injured.
Harris noted that during the period of clashes, a total of 28 attacks on medical institutions of the African country was committed. Eight people became victims of these attacks, another 18 were injured, she stated.
The representative of the WHO added that today only 16 percent of medical institutions are operating in Sudan, while in the capital of Hartum this figure is 6 percent.
Armed clashes between the army and the quick response forces (SBR) have been continuing on April 15 in Hartum and a number of other cities of Sudan.
Disagreements regarding the reform of military security, which provides for the complete integration of the SBR into the armed forces, resulted in a hot conflict between two power structures.
The Foreign Ministry of Sudan reported that the commander of the Republican Army of Sudan Abdelfattah al-Burkhan decided to dissolve the SBR and declared them as rebels.
