Number Of Victims Of Landslide Gathering In South Of Ethiopia Increased To 146 People

The number of people who died as a result of the landslide in the Ges-Gof area in the south of Ethiopia increased to 146 people. The landslide was caused by heavy rains that covered mountain massifs.

The representative of the local authorities Dagmavi Ilele said that among the dead there are small children and pregnant women.

at least five people managed to extract alive from mud masses, he noted. “During the search and rescue operations, we saw children who lost all family members, including mother, father, brothers and sisters,” Ilele said.

In the south of Ethiopia, the landslide gathering occurs mainly from June to August, in the rainy season. Earlier, at least 55 people were reported as a result of a landslide gathering that occurred the day before in the south of Ethiopia.
