In Astana, a meeting of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko was held with the international mission of observers of the organization of Turkic states (OTG), which was devoted to preparations for the upcoming republican referendum on the construction of the nuclear power plant. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan emphasized the significance of political reforms carried out in Kazakhstan in recent years, and also noted that the upcoming referendum is an important stage in the way to more active participation of citizens in making key decisions, following the principles of the “hearing state.”
OBG observers were informed about reforms in the electoral system of Kazakhstan, including quotas for women, youth and persons with limited opportunities, the introduction of direct elections of the Akims of rural districts, a decrease in the electoral threshold for parties and the possibility of voting “against all” candidates.
At the end of the meeting, Vasilenko thanked the members of the OTG mission for their important work and noted that their independent assessment and monitoring of the referendum course will play a key role in ensuring its transparency and justice.
In addition, the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation with the organization to build a stronger and more single future.
A national referendum on the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan will be held on October 6 of the current year.
