The 2023 World Championship in Taekwondo will be held in Baku. The decision on this was made at today’s extraordinary meeting of the Council of the World Federation of Taekwondo (WTF), which was held in the Olympic House in Lausanne, which is the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.
Baku won the competition from Chinese. The Chinese were brought up by the still extremely strict policy of their authorities in relation to the Covid-19, which led to the transfer and cancellation of a number of large competitions of this year.
The World Cup in the capital of Azerbaijan will be special, since it will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the world taekwondo. The exact terms of the competition will be announced later.
The president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach took part in the meeting. He heard a number of key reports of the Council, made a speech, greeting the guests of the Olympic House, and also handed the WTF Chief of the Choung Chow the honorary prize of the President of the IOC.
In turn, the Chung-Wong Chow said that for the Taekwondo family there is a great honor participation in the meeting of the President of the IOC.
“We congratulate Baku on obtaining the right to hold the World Cup 2023 and we have no doubt that, using all its experience and knowledge, Azerbaijan will hold a fantastic event dedicated to our 50th anniversary,” said WTF President.
