Ombudsman of Ukraine appealed to international organizations in connection with Saakashvili

The authorized by the High Rada of Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova made criticized by the intention of the penitentiary service of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia to translate the ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili from a military hospital in prison and asked foreign states and international human rights organizations to condemn such plans, TASS reports.

“condemned the intention of the Georgian penitentiary service to translate a citizen of Ukraine, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Council of Reforms under the President of Ukraine Mikhail Saakashvili from a military hospital in Gori back to prison,” she wrote on Tuesday in Telegram-Channel. “I ask foreign states and international human rights organizations to decisively condemn the actions of Georgian officials who violate the rights of Saakashvili for life, health care and medical assistance, enshrined 2 articles of the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” the ombudsman noted.

She also appealed to the Minister of Justice of Georgia with a request to provide “qualified treatment” Saakashvili in a military hospital in Gori to complete recovery.

Denisova explained that he considers the critical state of health Saakashvili, and also called a disturbing information about his readiness to start a new hunger strike. In her opinion, he must be treated elsewhere and with the involvement of Ukrainian specialists. “Repeatedly emphasized the need to continue the treatment of Mikhail in a multidisciplinary civil clinic or abroad. It is convinced that Ukraine should delegate his doctors and experts to establish the degree of harm caused by the health of our citizen, and to determine the conditions for further treatment,” she stressed.
