On dams of Turkey, surveillance systems will be installed in case of emergencies

After destructive earthquakes that fell on Turkey in February 2023, work is carried out in the country to create video monitoring systems and data transmission to monitor dams and water structures. The general director of the state enterprise for water and hydraulic structures (DSI) Mehmet Akif Balta said this in an interview with the Anadolu agency.

According to him, for this purpose, the installation of thermal imaging chambers on the dam has begun. Including the work of night vision systems, Balta said.

“At present, the installation of the system on the Ataturk hydroelectric power station will be completed. This system is designed to prevent negative situations that may arise in case of a spontaneous disaster,” said the general director.

According to Akif Balt, it is planned to expand this system on dams throughout the country, primarily in regions at risk of earthquakes.

He added that as a result of last year’s earthquakes, 140 dams received damage. Thanks to the new system, such situations will repetition of such situations will be prevented.

“The system makes it possible to remove remote monitoring. The image of the system is not interrupted even when the Internet is disconnected. In case of any negative situation about it, it will be communicated directly to the management of the consequences of emergencies. We place cells in fortified zones of dams that cannot touch the earthquake” , he explained.
