At the 4th diplomatic forum in Antalya, representatives of Mali, Niger and Burkina-Faso discussed regional problems, including terrorism, political instability and relations with the economic community of West African states (Ekovas). Discussions took place as part of the panel discussion “Sahel: the future of regional integration”.
The global communication partner of diphorum in Antalya is the Anadolu agency.
The event was attended by Foreign Ministers Mali Abdulai Diop, Niger Bakari Yau Sangare and Burkina-Faso Karamoko Jean Marie Traore.
Diop said that the Alliance of the Sahel states (AES) is fighting an existential crisis: he fights with terrorism and the threat of military coups.
Abdulay Diop noted that the Alliance of the Sahel states (AES) is opposed to the existential crisis, waging the fight against terrorism and the threat of military coups.
“Our countries are open and ready to interact with everyone else. We are ready to work on regional integration,” Diop said.
The minister emphasized that AES is not focused exclusively on military matters, the structure also seeks to create opportunities for young people to prevent illegal migration and involvement in terrorism.
Diope criticized the embargo in relation to the states of the region by some Western countries. “In recent years, we have been observing that a number of Western powers are trying to impose an embargo on our countries that do not have access to military equipment. This is why we turned to countries like Turkey, China and Russia,” he said.
The head of the department also criticized the UN for inaction against the backdrop of events in Mali. “The UN must stop counting the dead and start saving lives. The organization did nothing to combat terrorism on our land,” Diop said.
Bakari Yau Sangare, in turn, accused Ekovas of a departure from his fundamental principles. According to him, the organization is focused on issues not related to the well-being of member states. “That’s why we decided to leave Ekovas,” he explained.
The diplomat also stated that the withdrawal of foreign troops from Mali, including the French contingent, violated the financing channels of terrorist groups. “We see fewer attacks and fewer victims. This is a long -term struggle, but progress is noticeable,” he said.
Sangare emphasized the important role of Turkey as a strong partner in the fight against terrorism. The Minister expressed the satisfaction of Ankara’s contribution to counteracting this phenomenon.
According to Karamoko, Jean Marie Traore, Burkina-Faso, half of the territory of which in 2022 was occupied by terrorist groups, freed 71% of the country from the militants.
