On the first day of the 29th conference of the parties (COP29) of the United Nations Framework Convention (UN) on climate change, which began in the capital of Azerbaijan in Baku, attention is drawn to the “critical” level of global warming.
A special representative for climate change and the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, who chaired the COP last year, in his speech at the opening of the summit, emphasized that the world should unite in solving climatic problems.
President of COP29 and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babaev emphasized that negotiations on financing the fight against climate change will be “complex and difficult.”
Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention (RKIK) Simon Still said that at least 2/3 of countries should afford to quickly reduce emissions: “Otherwise, each country will pay a high price.”
Among the noticeable events of the day is a report published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the framework of COP29.
In a report that once again warned of the need to “show vigilance” regarding the rapidly increasing effect of climate change due to the constantly growing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, it is said that “2024 will be the hottest year in history after prolonged high monthly levels of global average temperatures “.
Turkish pavilion, created in the framework of COP29, among the promotions that attracted the most attention of visitors.
The opening of the Turkish pavilion was attended by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Changes, Murat Kurum, Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Shimshki and Minister of the Agricultural and Forestry of Ibrahim Yumakla.
Murat Kurum in his speech at the opening of the pavilion noted: “This conference is of particular importance, since COP29 is organized in Azerbaijan.” In addition to organizing COP29 in Azerbaijan, a COP -related to financing will be held. Together with the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury of Turkey, we plan to achieve the allocation of financing for our country. I am sure that we will achieve success in access to financing for our investments, projects and combating climate change. “
November 12-13, within the framework of COP29, will be a summit of world climate leaders (WLCAS), in which the heads of state and governments of about 100 countries will take part. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also take part in the summit.
