On initiative of Turkey, UN decision on sacred books was added to UNESCO resolution on discrimination

On the initiative of Turkey, the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (UN), in which crimes against sacred books are considered as violation of international law, was included in the UN Organization on Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) on racism, discrimination and crimes On the basis of hatred.

The constant representative of Turkey to the UNESCO Ambassador Gulnur Aybet on the social media platform X reported that at the 219th meeting of the UNESCO Executive Council this year, under the leadership of Turkey, the UN General Assembly, in which crimes against the Holy Books are declared violation of international law, was included in the draft UNESCO resolution on racism, discrimination and crimes on the basis of hatred.

Ambassador Aibet said that at the 216th meeting of UNESCO Executive Council last year, the fight against Islamophobia was included in the resolution on racism, discrimination and crimes on the basis of hatred.

The diplomat celebrated the theses of her speech at the meeting:

“We support the struggle with all types of crimes on the basis of hatred. I emphasized that in recent years the number of anti -Islamic crimes has grown anxiously and also noted that UNESCO should act in accordance with the UN resolutions on this issue. The draft resolution was adopted with the proposed. we are amended. The struggle continues. “

In July 2023, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by Morocco, which recognizes all forms of violence against persons on the basis of their religious beliefs, as well as in relation to sacred books and religious objects by violations of international law.
