On Sri Lanka due to riots, television and radio broadcasting was discontinued

Employees of the National Broadcasting of Sri Lanka stopped the transfer due to the complicated situation around the broadcasting headquarters, writes Bloomberg.

According to the agency, before leaving the air, the national anthem sounded. The local press with reference to the television and radio center engineers reports that such a decision was made after the protesters took the assault on the broadcasting center. The Ministry of Information of Sri Lanka has not yet commented on the situation, notes Bloomberg.

Mass protests in the capital of Sri Lanka began on July 9 amid a deterioration in the socio-economic situation. Then they grew into disorder. The demonstrators captured the residence of the President of Sri Lanka Gotabayi Rajapax. The head of state managed to leave it a few minutes before the assault. Later, participants in the shares entered the territory of the residence of the Prime Minister Ranil Vikmasingha and set fire to the building. On July 13, Gotababay Rajapax signed a resignation statement from the post of president and left the country. According to AFP, the politician flew away with his wife and guards on the An-32 military aircraft. The current Prime Minister of the country was appointed temporarily acting president. On the same day, the Sri Lanka authorities introduced a state of emergency on the territory of the state. On July 20, the parliament will hold the elections of the new president, after which the Provisional Government will be appointed, which will work before the following universal elections.
