One of the most famous spys of the Cold War, the United States Ana Montes was released from prison after more than 20 years of imprisonment. This was reported by the Air Force.
Montes spied in favor of Cuba, working as an analyst at the US Ministry of Defense intelligence department. For almost two decades, she met with Cuban curators in Washington’s restaurants every few weeks and sent them a coded message containing secret information through a pager. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison, the judge who sentenced Montes accused Montes of risking the “nation as a whole.”
One of the American officials said that she was among the “most dangerous spies” detained by the United States.
Michelle Van Clive, who headed the counterintelligence under President George Bouche, Jr., told Congress in 2012 that Montes “compromised everything – almost everything – that we knew about Cuba and how we acted in Cuba.”
Montes will remain under the supervision for five years after the release, the use of the Internet will also be controlled. She will also be forbidden to work for the government or contact foreign agents without permission.
