Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas

Today, on January seventh, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of the main Christian holidays – Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ.

Orthodox Christians, unlike Catholics, celebrate Christmas on January seventh, not December 25th.

Lutherans, part of the Protestant faiths and the Anglican Church also celebrate the Christmas of Christ December 25.

In the hierarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church, this holiday takes the second place after Easter. The holiday of Christmas is preceded by a 40-day Christmas post, a week of forefathers, a week of fathers, a special Saturday before Christmas, pre-holiday and Christmas Christmas Eve.
