Bloomberg believes that Mansur “has long been involved in the development of relations between the UAE and Russia,” but the importance and complexity of this role has increased due to events around Ukraine.

The publication recalls that the United States, the EU and a number of other countries began to tighten sanctions against Russia, making it a record holder in the number of sanctions imposed, and the UAE did not introduce any restrictions. The authorities of the country, writes Bloomberg, note that they respect international legislation, but they say that they are not obliged to follow the rules introduced by individual countries and want to pursue their own policy.

It is noted that high -ranking government officials, businessmen and heads of large Russian companies were associated with Sheikh on investment. At the same time, some of them wanted to purchase real estate in Dubai, others need help to open bank accounts and companies.

Several interlocutors of the publication said that officials in the UAE consider the efforts of Sheikh Mansur to work with the Russians part of the “broad strategy of the government to attract global business and maintaining strategic ties with the East and West.” According to sources, in the UAE they consider relations with Russia important given the fact that countries cooperate as part of the alliance of countries – OPEC oil exporters+.
