Following the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers‘ decision to hold a Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe on 16-17 May 2023 in Reykjavik, PACE President Tiny Kox made the following statement:
“Our Assembly is convinced of the need for a new, 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government. Since 2017, PACE has been calling for such a summit to strengthen Europe’s political multilateral architecture and lead to a renewed, improved and reinforced Council of Europe, with new competencies and better equipped to protect and promote democratic security.
I thank the Irish and Icelandic Presidencies for the work done and the work to come to make the summit a reality. The Parliamentary Assembly will work hard to meaningfully contribute to its preparation and to make it a success.”
