Panama President: Panama Canal Is Not Subject To Discussion

President of Panama Jose Raul Mulino said that the status of the Panama Canal is not subject to discussion. Panama President stated this, speaking at a weekly briefing.

Mulino emphasized that the Panama authorities will not negotiate from the United States regarding the Panama Canal.

President of Panama also attracted attention to the statement of the chosen President of the United States Donald Trump, noting the unacceptability of this kind of statements.

“The president cannot speak with any intention to reconsider legal and political reality in the issue of Panama Panama Canal. If he has such an intention, then there is nothing to talk about,” he said.

Mulino emphasized that the Panamanian Canal is a source of pride for the Panaman.

“The channel is Panama and belongs to the Panamanes. This reality was achieved by tears, labor and victims of the country and is not subject to discussion. The Panama Canal is not subject to discussion,” he said.

Mulino also attracted attention to the topic relating to the Panama channel.

“The fee for passage on the channel cannot be established by arbitrary decisions of the president or executive branch. There is an established and observed procedure, and this procedure is performed in a completely transparent way,” he said.

Earlier, on December 22, the elected US President Donald Trump accused Panama of levying an excessively high fee for the use of the Panama channel, saying that if the channel is not properly controlled, it will require its return to the United States.
