Coronavirus pandemic led to a tens of thousands of tons of new medical supplies, which can damage the health of the population. This is stated in global analysis of WHO, RIA Novosti reports.
When performing its calculations, the authors of the WHO report “Global analysis of medical waste in the context of COVID-19: the state of affairs, consequences and recommendations” proceeded from the fact that in the period from March 2020 to November 2021, as part of the UN Secretary Emergency Initiative Purchased and sent to meet the urgent needs of countries due to response measures to COVID-19 approximately 87 thousand tons of personal protective equipment (PPE). It is assumed that almost all of these products as a result turned into waste.
