Pandemic led to an increase in sexual exploitation of children on Internet

Half children in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa are subject to online violence and sexual exploitation on the Internet, this is stated in the report published by the Weprotect Global Alliance, which unites more than 200 governments.

According to the results of a survey of 5,000 children out of 54 countries in the period from May to June 2021, experts have been established that the scale of sexual exploitation and abuse of children under the age of 18 is incremented by rapid pace and the world must urgently create a secure online Environment for minors.

The report indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic has also contributed to the growth of sexual exploitation, since with the introduction of restrictive measures in many countries, children began to spend even more time at a computer.

According to the report, about 44% of children (every second child) in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa almost every day faces sexual exploitation on the Internet. 57% are children with limited physical abilities.
