Emir Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Ahmad Al-Tanya approved the law on the first time in the history of the state of parliamentary elections. In October 2021, citizens will have to elect 30 out of 45 members of the Shura Council. The rest will continue to be appointed by the monarch. This is reported by NEWSRU.CO.IL.
According to the law, the duties of deputies will remain unchanged. They have to approve the policies of the government, to approve the budget, as well as to carry out parliamentary control over the executive power.
The territory of the state will be divided into 30 constituencies, each of which will be presented in the Council with one deputy. Citizens over 18 years old will have the right to choose, and the right to be elected is older than 30 years.
