Participants in the 9th National Antarctic Scientific Expedition of Turkey returned to their homeland after 34 days.
The expedition was under the auspices of the Administration of the President of Turkey, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and Coordination of the Institute of Polar Research Tübi̇tak Mam.
Having left Istanbul on February sixth, the team overcame about 14 thousand kilometers and arrived on the island of King-Jorde, where Betanzos climbed aboard the Chilean ship. From there, scientists headed to the island of Dismal, and then to the island of Horsha, where the Turkish research camp is located. The route ran through Brazil and Chile, took 60 hours all the way.
as part of the expedition, researchers implemented 19 projects in areas of biological, social, physical and geological sciences.
A team of 20 people, including foreign researchers who were on the island of Horsha, where the Turkish research camp was located, conducted research related to the creation of new batymmetric maps, observation stations for close space, atmospheric and cosmic observations, the environment, pollution, meteorological measurements and water ecosystems.
At the Airport of Istanbul, their relatives, rector of the Istanbul Technical University Hassan Mandala and other authorized persons, who returned from the Antarctic, were met by the Antarctica.
“research in such key areas as climate change, polar ecosystems, soil science, life, as well as in close space and atmosphere, provided important data for the scientific community. Our team operating in the most remote corners of the world also contributes to scientific diplomacy through international cooperation,” the Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey Mehmet Fatih wrote in x. Kajyr, commenting on the return of the expedition participants to their homeland.
The Coordinator of the Scientific Expedition, Professor Burdju Ozso told Anadolu at Istanbul Airport that three students of lyceums who took first place in the polar research competition organized Tübi̇tak also took part in the expedition, and among the four winners received the right to go to the Antarctica, where they personally experienced their own equipment.
According to the professor, Turkish scientists implemented very valuable projects on physics, biology and chemistry on the continent, and also conducted engineering research.
