Participants in the Third Turkish Arctic Scientific Research Expedition reached the city of Tromso in the north of Norway.
The expedition takes place under the patronage of the Administration of the President of Turkey with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology in cooperation with the Institute of Polar Research Tübi̇tak (Kare).
A group of scientists who have served from Istanbul on July 5, within a month will conduct research on the Polar Xplorer vessel under the Norwegian flag.
The expedition plans to conduct scientific activities in 24 different sectors of the Barents Sea within a month. Turkish scientists will study atmospheric phenomena, flora and fauna, climate change.
The ship arrived at Tromseyo, where the team passed the trainings before leaving the Arctic Ocean in the waters.
The expedition coordinator, Professor Burku Ozu said that the team is ready to start an expedition with 71 degrees of northern latitude. “We intend to get to 82 degrees of northern latitude, where there are not many sea ice. Of course, we will determine the exact route as it moves,” he said.
Ozse said that Turkish scientists as a whole intend to conduct research at 24 points in the Arctic. “In particular, foreign scientists included in our team will engage in research of flora and fauna at sea, as well as the ecosystem of the Arctic Ocean,” he said.
In addition, according to Ozza, the scientist from Norway will investigate the possibility of laying new trade routes through the Arctic against the background of glaciers.
