The decision to send a military contingent of the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) to Kazakhstan was taken to meet the rapid development of the situation in this country, said Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at the online meeting of the Collective Security Council, in which the heads of state took part CSTO members.
According to Pashinyan, the President of Kazakhstan officially appealed to the Council of Collective Security. On this basis, and in accordance with the Charter of the CSTO, the Armenian Prime Minister, chairing the Council, launched a consultation mechanism with the heads of the CSTO member states.
“Given the tendency to the rapid development of the situation and in view of the threats to the safety, stability and sovereignty of Kazakhstan, on the basis of consensus, it was decided to send peacekeepers to the country for a limited period for the protection of strategic facilities,” said Pashinyan, who cited Armenian media.
