“Pass vaccination from Russia”: Lithuanian President urges West to break off ties with Moscow

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda urged Western countries to follow the example of Vilnius and break economic ties with Russia.

I think we have done a lot to make Lithuania more resistant to the energy and economic blackmail of Russia. And today, when I look at some other countries of Western Europe, I see a long way that Lithuania has gone a little more time, ”said Nauceda in an interview with the Lithuanian television and radio company (LRT).

According to President Naoueda, Lithuania’s policy was more effective than that of many other European countries, since Vilnius did not experience illusions in relation to Moscow, this is confirmed by the situation with gas supply.

“And so now, when, say, in Germany they think what to do in the upcoming cold season, whether it will be necessary to normalize electricity or other energy resources, we clearly see that Lithuania not only declared, but also actually broke out all kinds of energy connections With Russia, he refuses to buy gas, oil, and electricity, ”RBC cites the words of the Lithuanian president.

According to President Lithuania, a realistic policy (Realpolitik) became a “big headache” for a number of Western countries, which proves the right direction of Vilnius. “You can see that a policy that did not feed any illusions regarding Russia worked much better than the so -called RealPolitik, which is now the headache of some Western states. I understand their position, but this once again confirms that Lithuania has gone on the right path And the faster other Western European countries will elect the same path, the better and easier it will be for everyone, ”he said.

According to him, now Europe should “pass vaccination from Russia” for a long time so that there are no more politicians who would have to be strengthened after a year and a half with Moscow. He emphasized: “It is extremely dangerous to follow these illusions, how the story taught us so many times.”

Before, in other countries of Europe, Lithuania was doubtful, however, after the “threats materialized”, the leaders of European countries are associated with Vilnius, and continued the Nague. Several of them have already recognized: “You were right and your definition and assessment of the situation were the most accurate and realistic,” said the Lithuanian president.

Lithuania became the first state of the European Union to refuse in April from Russian gas supplies, RBC recalls. The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy called this decision “turning point.” Lithuania fully provides itself with gas through LNG terminal in Klaipeda, the ministry said. In 2017, through this terminal, Lithuania was the first in the European Union by the American LNG. Lithuania stopped taking the Russian LNG through the port of Klaipeda in early March. At the end of May, Lithuania also stopped receiving electricity from Russia.
