The repeated attempts of the highest military leadership of the United States to talk to their Russian colleagues over the past month were rejected by Moscow, reports The Washington Post with reference to the representative of Pentagon John Kirby.
He stated that after the start of the war in Ukraine, the US Secretary of Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and the Chairman of the Committee of Headquarters General Mark Milli tried to organize telephone conversations with the Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu and the head of the General Staff of Russia, Valery Gerasimov. However, the Russian side up to this moment refused dialogue, Kirby said.
According to him, the Pentagon adheres to the opinion that the interaction between the leaders of the US and Russia’s defense departments “is critical at present.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the Pentagon created a communication channel in Ukraine in order to prevent military incidents.
