The Pentagon analyzes its arms reserves, and perhaps it will have to increase military expenses against the background of the great need of Ukraine for ammunition.
This is the chairman of the Committee of the Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mill Millie said in an interview with the newspaper Financial Times.
“What we see in this war is a very high level of consumption of ordinary ammunition, and we are reviewing our own reserves and plans to make sure that we did everything right. We are trying to analyze, then to evaluate what, what are our opinion, true needs. And then this must be included in the budget. Munitions are expensive, ”he said.
On January 24, The New York Times reported that the Pentagon set the task for 2 years to increase the production of 155 mm caliber shells by more than 6 times, which are the main type of ammunition supplied to Ukraine.
The publication noted that until February 2022, 14.4 thousand such shells were produced monthly in the United States, in the same year the Pentagon decided to increase this indicator. In January of this year, the target indicators of the production of 155 mm caliber ammunition increased to 90 thousand per month. To complete the task, it is necessary to modernize existing production capacities and attract new suppliers. The newspaper explained that the planned mobilization in this direction will be the largest over the past 40 years.
