The decision to join Ukraine to NATO should be made by all 30 members of the Alliance, said the head of the US Ministry of Defense Lloyd Austin, commenting on Ukraine’s application for an accelerated entry into NATO.
“We are committed to the support of the Open Doors Policy, but how this happens, is really a matter that is resolved by 30 countries that vote,” Austin said at a joint press conference with Australian colleague Richard Marlz in the state Hawaii.
Austin noted that the decision should also be made by a country that is striving for NATO. According to Austin, the United States is focused that Kyiv has “everything necessary for success.” Washington sees some “really good results”.
Vladimir Zelensky, after the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin to annexate the territories of Ukraine, signed an application for an accelerated accession to NATO. According to Politico, Kyiv’s plans were a surprise to Washington, the West fears that this will lead to war with Russia.
