US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin arrived on the eve of an undeclared visit to Kabul, becoming the first representative of the presidential administration Joe Bayden, who visited Afghanistan, reports The New York Times.
As part of the visit, Austin held talks with the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani. The US Secretary of Defense said to journalists that he had no concrete message that he would give Ghana. According to Austin, he chose to listen to the thoughts of the Afghan president regarding the situation in the country.
The Minister also visited the headquarters of the American Military Mission, where from Kabul went to the US Army helicopter Black Hawk. In Headquarters, the Minister met with the commander of NATO and USA in Afghanistan Austin Miller.
The New York Times reminds that the United States intends to bring troops from Afghanistan on May 1 – at the date established in the Agreement signed by the Administration of Former President Donald Trump and the Taliban grouping more than a year ago.
