Turkish law enforcement agencies arrested at least 98 people who are suspected of robberies damaged by the earthquakes of buildings and in telephone fraud, Anadolu reports citing sources in the Security Service.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, 40 people were arrested on suspicion of plundering buildings in the province of Hatai in southern Turkey. $ 11 thousand, 70 thousand Turkish lires ($ 3.7 thousand), 20 mobile phones, 8 laptops, 5 household appliances, 6 pistols and 3 rifles, as well as jewelry and bank cards were seized from the suspects.
Two more arrested, posing as humanitarian workers, tried to steal six trucks with food for victims in Khatai.
In addition, the authorities arrested several persons who called the victims after the earthquake and asked to name their banking data supposedly to provide assistance.
The arrests took place in eight Turkish provinces – Kerymanmarash, Hatai, ADIAMAN, MALATY, Osmania, Adan, Gaziantep and Chanlyurf.
