Warsaw became the first capital from the potential guarantor states, which publicly announced that she would not participate in a peace agreement if it would provide for the delivery of part of the territory of Ukraine. This was stated in an interview with Gazeta.pl Yakub Kumoch, foreign policy adviser to President Andrzej Duda and one of the leaders of the Polish presidential office.
Kumoch confirmed that Poland is ready to play the role of the guarantor as part of an agreement with Russia on the ceasefire, if these negotiations come to success.
“Poland will not evade its responsibility. Now we are discussing the draft agreement between Ukraine and guarantor states. However, this is only the beginning of the path. This is one of the possible ways to terminate the conflict,” he explained.
The diplomat emphasized that the current draft peace agreement is currently a document of Ukrainian authorship. He also set the condition for Poland’s participation in this process: “If a peace agreement is reached, we are only interested in one that guarantees the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its independence. And only a document that Ukrainians agree.”
He also revealed the details of the negotiations, noting that the surrender of Donbass and Crimea is not considered.
“Russians would like guarantees to be a repetition of Budapest, and Ukraine would additionally recognize the loss of Crimea and Donbass. But this is ridiculous. At first they also demanded the disarmament of Ukraine, but to demand the disarmament of the state whose army defeated a significant part of the Russian troops in the Ground War , is impudent, ”Kumoch added.
