Pope called to prevent death of migrants in Mediterranean

The Pope Francis urged politicians to prevent the “suffering of migrants in the Mediterranean.” He said about this at the end of the traditional Sunday sermon on St. Peter’s Square.

Pontiff noted that this year about 2000 illegal migrants died in the Mediterranean Sea, trying to get to Europe.

“With pain and shame, it must be said that almost 2000 women, men and children died at sea from the beginning of this year, trying to get to Europe,” said the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

He recalled that recently, as a result of the crash of a boat with asylum seekers off the coast of the Italian Island of Lamepaduz, 41 people died.

Pope Francis called the disasters of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea “Bloody Wound of Humanity”.
