Pope Francis compared the Russian war in Ukraine with the Holodomor of the 1930s, which carried away the lives of several million Ukrainians. The head of the Catholic Church said this during an audience on St. Peter’s Square, writes Moscow Times.
“This Saturday, the anniversary of the Holodomor -mass murder of hunger in 1932-1933, deliberately provoked by Stalin. We pray for victims of this genocide and for many Ukrainians: children, women and the elderly, who are experiencing martyrdom today due to aggression,” – called Francis.
earlier after the large -scale attacks of Russia on the civil infrastructure of Ukraine, the pope made a sharp condemnation of the bombing and called them ruthless: “Let the spirit of the Lord transform the hearts of those in whose hands the fate of the war, so that the hurricane of violence stops and peaceful coexistence in justice could be restored” .
