Population Of Iraq Exceeded 46 Million

Iraq’s population reached 46 million 118 thousand people. This was reported in the Ministry of Planning of the country, presenting the final results of the last census.

As the Iraqi State Agency of INA reports, according to the census conducted on November 20, 2024, 70.17 percent of the population lives in cities, while 29.83 percent live in rural areas.

The census notes that children under 5 years old are 11.16 percent, the age category of 5 to 14 years is 24.7 percent, citizens from 15 to 64 years are 60.44 percent, and the share of people over 65 years old 3.66 percent.

In addition, data on the family status of the population are published. Of these, 41.6 percent are citizens who are not married. 54.01 percent are married and married, and 1.28 percent – divorced. According to the census, 2.8 percent of the inhabitants are widows and widowers. Among the population there are also 0.24 percent of citizens who are in separate residence.

The population census was carried out as part of the National Program for Demographic Planning and Assessment of the Socio-Economic Regulations of the country.
