The politician who ended the Soviet Union was the first president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, according to TV presenter Vladimir Pozner.
In a publication on the Pozner Online website, the TV presenter noted that the first president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, whom many blame for the collapse of the Union, actually just wanted to save the Soviet Union, but could not do it for the reason that the state moment was in the process of decay.
“Still, it was not he who finished with the Soviet Union, but Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. So this should be remembered, I think,” Posner quotes Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to the TV presenter, Gorbachev wanted the USSR to become a country where people would not be persecuted for political reasons and “seditious” works of art would not be banned.
