Several people died as a result of landslide caused by heavy rains, on the Italian island of Kysya, not far from Naples, BBC reports.
The flow of dirt and garbage, which reached the coast early on Saturday morning, tumbled down the trees, swallowed the buildings and carried away dozens of cars in the sea. It is reported that the body of a woman was found under the thickness of the mud, several more people are missing. Dozens of houses turned out to be cut off, the rescuers are disturbed by bad weather.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Italy Matteo Piantyosi told reporters that the situation is very difficult and that people who were missing were allegedly trapped under the stream of mud. In six hours, up to 155 mm of precipitation fell.
Local authorities urge residents to stay at home so as not to interfere with the work of emergency services.
Earlier, the Minister of Infrastructure of Matteo Salvini said that eight people were killed as a result of the landslide. However, later the Minister of the Interior said that the death of people has not yet been confirmed.
