Preparation of feasibility of sea wire between Turkey and Cyprus has ended

A project aimed at connecting electricity between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRK) is technically ready. This was announced by the Anadolu was reported by the coordinator of the Electrical Engineering and Electronics Program for the Campus of the Middle Eastern Technical University (ODTü) to TRK Professor Murat Fakhrioglu.

The purpose of the project is to ensure the power supply of TRK by laying electric cables from Turkey under water.

“island networks are very sensitive, since the sizes are insulated. And in this regard, it is often required to connect to much larger mainland networks. A large number of islands around the world are already connected to larger networks or will be connected to them in the nearest Time, ”said the professor.

The professor recalled that the energy agreement between Turkey and TRK was signed in 2017.

“Subsequently, a joint working group in energy was created between the two countries. I am also one of its members. According to the results of our studies, it was decided that an electrical connection between countries was best carried out as part of the HVDC -VSC model,” said Fakhrioglu.

According to him, the Turkish company Türkiye Elektrik ̇letim Aş and the TRK power supply operating.

“Technically, the connection project is already ready. This type of connection is currently the most common type of connection in the world,” said the professor.

According to him, the cable up to 85 km is designed to ensure the uninterrupted energy supply of TRK. “We focused on 3 routes located close to each other. We take into account various scenarios related to the capacity of the cable. The most difficult part of the project, laying the cable under water,” the professor said.
