In his speech at the Turkish-Italian business forum, organized by the Ministry of Trade, the Council for Foreign Economic Relations (Deik), the Italian Foreign Ministry and the Italian Trade Agency, President Erdogan thanked the Prime Minister of Italy Georgia Meloni for his kind hospitality.
“We decisively implement our economic program and do not depart from this program. We are determined to improve the investment climate and conduct new structural reforms,” he said.
President Erdogan said that the mechanism of intergovernmental meetings at the highest level, the first of which took place in Turkey in 2008, contributed to significant progress in the economy, as well as multifaceted political relations between countries over the past period.
Having emphasized that the initiatives of business people played an important role in this success, the president expressed the hope that in the coming period the partnership would be brought to a higher level.
Having stated that they are experiencing a period when the intensification of protectionism and the closure of borders in the economy are discussed, Erdogan continued as follows:
“We are monitoring the mutual confrontation about customs tariffs. We try to successfully manage this dynamic atmosphere for the economy of our country and even turn it into the possibility. In the past, we came out unharmed from such processes, in particular, from the coronavirus epidemic. We believe that today we enjoy the same success, we trust the Turkish economy.”
According to him, Ankara attaches great importance to the establishment of effective economic and trading partnerships in the region and around the world, which is due to the geographical position of Turkey, connecting the West and East, the North and South.
“Today I would like to note with great pleasure that the Turkish economy continues to grow, despite the conflicts and wars in our region and the earthquake of the century, which we survived in 2023. Direct damage from the earthquake for the Turkish economy amounted to $ 104 billion, and indirect – $ 150 billion. Despite this, we quickly heal our wounds,” added, – added. Erdogan.
