President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that Germany has been formed under the influence of religious diversity for centuries.
Steinmeier said this during his speech at an event on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Association of Islamic Cultural Centers of Germany.
“The variety of Islam and more than 5 million Muslims is part of our country,” he said.
According to him, Germany is a neutral state, but freedom of religion does not mean that there is no religion in the country.
on the contrary, this means that religions have a place, and we provide freedom to all believers. I believe that the variety of religions helps us and our country, because it requires respect, openness, compromise. In short, it requires good and democratic coexistence, ”he said.
Steinmeier said that Islamophobia, anti -Semitism or hatred of Christians is a poison that is alien to German democracy.
