Energy independence is the most important basis for the national security of Moldova. Moldova President Maya Sandu said this at a joint press conference with the European Commissioner for the extension of Marta Kos.

“Moldova has already taken decisive steps to achieve energy independence. Sandu also recalled the construction of two more power lines with the EU: Balti-Suchava and terrible gutinash, which will supply electricity from various sources at predictable prices.

Another important step, according to the president, is the development of renewable energy, as of the end of last year, more than 16 percent of energy consumed in Moldova had to be in renewable renewal, the president said.

Last year, the government announced tenders for projects in the field of solar and wind energy, which can attract up to 190 million euros to the renewable energy sector, Sandu said.

Sandu emphasized that the European path of Moldova already brings specific fruits. “We travel around Europe without visas, and while traveling, we talk by phone at reduced prices. More than 60 percent of products produced in Moldova for export are entered in European markets. We build roads, bridges, schools, we equip hospitals, conduct hospitals, holding Water pipelines in the village, land the hectares of trees and repair the houses of culture.

According to her, in the coming weeks, European institutions will approve the growth plan for Moldova – an investment plan worth 1.8 billion euros, and the first money will go to Moldova this year.

The Republic of Moldova is preparing to become part of the unified zone of payments in the euro (SEPA), which will make banking transfers more affordable, fast and safe for citizens of Moldova, working or leading business in Europe, said Sandu.

The President of Moldova and the European Commissioner for the expansion of Marta Cos during the meeting agreed on the Strategy of Energy Security for Moldova and a two -year support package from the European Union.

“The strategy pursues two main goals: to reduce Moldova’s dependence on Russian sources of energy and completely integrate it into the European energy market,” the president’s press service said.
