Ukraine needs the full support of all free European countries. Moldova President Maya Sandu said this at the congress of the European People’s Party (UNP) in Bucharest, the press service of the head of state reports.
“In Ukraine, the safety of Europe is at risk. We have no time for doubt – Ukraine needs the full support of all free European countries. There is no more relevant task than supporting Ukraine and providing peace,” said the President of Moldova.
Sandu expressed the conviction that what was happening in Ukraine would determine the future of Moldova for decades ahead.
“Russia wants to include Moldova in its sphere of influence, not taking into account the human rights, freedom of expression of opinions and meetings, without free elections. Russia believes that it does not need to ask smaller countries, such as we, what are they actually they want. According to Russia, the people of Moldova have no right to vote in their geopolitical plans, ”the president said.
However, the head of state continued, Chisinau chose another way. “Today, Moldova is not on the table, as Russia wanted; instead, Moldova has a place at the table,” Maya Sandu emphasized, noting that the Moldavian people made a sovereign and conscious choice so that they would not “forcefully pour it into the sphere of influence of Russia” said the politician.
The firm choice of Moldova is to live freely, in conditions of democracy, and not under oppression and fear, ”the head of state said, adding that today, Kishinev, more than ever, is needed by your firm and reliable support in this choice, the president emphasized.
Sandu also noted that the UNP has always been the strongest, most devoted and most reliable supporter of the European integration of Moldova.
today, in the face of aggression, we are counting on you on our way to join the EU. I appreciate the leadership and support received from Ursula von der Lyain and Roberta Metsol, as well as many other friends here, ”Sandu said.
The president noted that it was during the crisis that the general responsibility and leadership are important than ever. “Together we will cope with this challenge. Together we will build an even larger and stronger union. We remain one,” the head of state concluded.
