Moldova President Maya Sandu said that she repeatedly heard calls to recreate the Soviet Union from the Kremlin. According to her, Moldova does not want to follow this scenario, but chooses sovereignty and democracy.
“I heard several times how in Moscow they said that they want to restore the Soviet Union. This directly affects us. We do not want to return to the Soviet Union. We want to live in a free society, in a democratic country,” said Sandu in an interview with the Romanian publication RFI.
According to her, the Kremlin wants the pro -Russian government in Chisinau, and uses paid protests and creates an artificial energy crisis, reducing gas supply without legal grounds.
“Most of propaganda and misinformation is carried out in Russian. There are many Russian-speaking citizens in Moldova. For example, in the Gagauz autonomy. There are few people speak in Romanian. They do not have the opportunity to receive information from the sources of their country, which is why They are affected only by information from the Russian Federation. They do not know other realities, they do not have other sources, ”said Sandu.
At the same time, she noted that Russian propaganda is being conducted in the Romanian language.
“We are trying to fight. We have made amendments to the legal framework in order to prevent propaganda. We are trying to develop institutions that should fight disinformation. But the joint efforts of Chisinau and Bucharest are needed, because we can’t do it alone,” Sandu emphasized alone .
