President Of Tajikistan Held Negotiations With EU Head In Samarkand

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with the chairman of the Council of the European Union Antoniu Koshta on the fields of the Central Asia-European Union summit, which takes place in Samarkand.

According to Avest, during negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues regarding the strengthening of cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU.

Rachmon emphasized that Dushanbe considers the European Union as one of the key partners in the international arena.

In turn, the EU head focused on the importance of resolving border issues between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, congratulating the Tajik people with this “historical step” that is relevant to all Central Asia.

Among the preparations discussed by the cooperation agreement between Tajikistan and the EU, which is at the final stage, as well as issues of using the country’s natural and hydropower resources to stimulate trade between the regions.

Parties paid special attention to energy.

Rachmon confirmed Dushanbe’s interest in attracting European investments and technologies for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station and modernization of the Nurek hydroelectric station.

In addition, the prospects for the development of the “green” economy were discussed, including the production and exports of environmentally friendly energy.

In addition, the heads of the parties discussed the expansion of interaction in the field of healthcare, social protection, education and professional training. Separately, the issues of implementation of European grant programs, including projects, bomb and cadap.

The climatic agenda also entered into negotiations. The parties spoke out for the need to coordinate efforts to combat global environmental challenges and a consequence of climatic disasters.

Following the meeting, the presidents expressed satisfaction with the progressive development of bilateral ties and confirmed the readiness to further deepen the partnership.
